Germany’s bulk transportation company Oldendorff Carriers has taken delivery of its first owned Capesize newbuilding. The 207,600 tdw Linda Oldendorff and Lavinia Oldendorff were both delivered on their contractual date of 30th September 2014 by Hyundai Heavy’s new Gunsan yard, the company said.
MV Linda
Oldendorff is fully owned and was christened by Linda Oldendorff, one of the owner’s daughters on 18th September 2014.
Her sister vessel, MV Lavinia Oldendorff had been sold in June 2013 to Greek shipowners Laskaridis Shipping / Lavinia Corp. with an up to 10 year BB charter back to Oldendorff Carriers.
The newbuilding duo are part of a 6 ship series, that was ordered in March 2013 from the Korean yard.
The other four sisters, MV Leopold Oldendorff, MV Ludolf Oldendorff, MV Lydia Oldendorff and MV Luise Oldendorff will be delivered between January and May 2015, the company added.
According to Oldendorff, on fully laden draft, the company’s Hyundai type is currently the lowest consumption Newcastlemax type in the market.
“We have previously bought 2nd hand Capes and have taken delivery of several Newcastlemax newbuildings on BB charter, however M/V Linda Oldendorff is our first ever fully owned newbuilding in this segment,” Oldendorff said.
