Lines is increasing the frequency of its Southern Express line, providing weekly departures from Europe to West Africa and back. The Italian ship owner will incorporate a new vessel, the “Grande Lagos”, which was delivered in July 2014, by the South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
This ro/ro multipurpose vessel, the first one in a series of six new vessels commissioned, has a capacity of 5,700 linear meters of rolling cargo and 1,800 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). This transport capacity represents an increase of 47% compared to the vessels previously built for the Grimaldi Group in South Korea. The “Grande Lagos” is also fitted with two cranes on the weather deck with an outreach of 43 metres. Each crane is able to lift cargo of up to 40 tonnes.
Finally, she is designed to achieve significant fuel efficiency. The Southern Express route calls the following ports: Amsterdam (NL), Hamburg (GE), Tilbury (UK), Antwerp (BE), Le Havre (FR), Bilbao (ES), Leixoes (PT), Lisbon (PT), Casablanca (MA), Dakar (SN), Lomé (TG), Cotonou (BJ), Luanda (AO), Point Noire (CG), Libreville (GA) and Douala (CM).
