Oceanco Welcomes Young Designers

Oceanco is once again proudly sponsoring the annual “Young Designer of the Year" Award. Six of the seven finalists in the ShowBoats Design Awards competition — Timur Bozca, Jake Edens, Isik
Goren, Ben Hills, Harun Kemali and Antonella Scarfiello — arrived in Amsterdam the evening of May 27 and were accompanied to a welcome dinner by Oceanco's Marketing and Sales Department. After a vibrant evening out in the city centre the group over-nighted in Amsterdam. Early the next morning they were whisked away to tour Oceanco’s facilities. At Oceanco, the aspiring designers met with members of Oceanco’s Sales and Design Departments to witness how things work at Oceanco. At the same time they received constructive comments and insight regarding their individual ‘concept’ presentations. Oceanco also shared real life examples of Oceanco designs and innovations. Next, was an educational tour through the yard and the new dry dock facilities.

The group was then shuttled by water taxi to Rotterdam, passing by and catching a glimpse of the recently launched 86m sailing yacht, built collaboratively by Oceanco and Vitters. Over lunch at Hotel New York, an historic landmark building that used to be the headquarters of the Holland America Line, the Oceanco team members and the talented designers continued a lively dialogue about what it takes to be a superyacht designer. The "Young Designer of the Year Award" presented by Boat International Media at an annual awards gala the 23rd of February in Kitzbühel,

Austria celebrates the best superyacht design from student and trainee designers under the age of 26. The contestants must submit a design that relates to a realistic client request. They are encouraged to exhibit detailed technical and design skills. The entries are judged by a group of international superyacht designers. This year the Young Designers were asked to design concept for a 55-metre sailing yacht. In sponsoring and supporting the “Young Designer of the Year Award,” Oceanco hopes to encourage fresh new talent to join the superyacht industry. Oceanco’s is continuously exploring new approaches to design and technology. Perhaps one day, one of these new young designers will be helping to create the next generation Oceanco yacht.
